Film: Vaanchinathan

Roja Combines of Kaja Mohideen, which has given several box office hits including Chuttik Kuzandhai, Gopala Gopala, Porkaalam, is now making Vaanchinathan, starring Vijayakanth, Ramya Krishnan and Saakshi. The cast includes Prakashraj, Nassar, Thalaivasal Vijay, Sreeman, Rajkapoor, Rajeev, Thyagu, Visu, Manorama, Delhi Ganesh and a host of others.

Vijayakanth, as always, was busy fighting with rowdies in the sets of AVM. On a previous occasion when we met him in the Indian Express campus, he was playing the dishoom dishoom game with Delhi Ganesh. Anyway, this time he was fighting the rowdy elements to save Ramya Krishnan. We spoke to him as he took his chair during the break.

'The movie has nothing to do with Vaanchinathan of the freedom struggle' said Vijayakanth. 'The name is for the sake of its appeal. I am a police officer. But we did not release any photograph to the press, showing me in the uniform. I feel that the role of a Police Officer is most suited for my type of stories. It has all the scope for love, romance, sense of duty, action, amma sentiment and so many other emotions that appeal to my fans. They need more than one feeling in a movie. It is true that movies with romance as the central theme do run successfully. As far as I am concerned, police officer's roles suit me the most and my fans like to see me in such roles only.'

We looked around. Vijayakanth continued. 'We spent 20 lakhs for this set. R K Nagu is in charge of the arts department. Saravanan handles the camera'.

The lyrics are by Muthukumar, Muthuvijayan and Snehan. Karthik Raja has scored the music. Shaji Kailash is responsible for the screenplay and direction. The movie is a Pongal release.
