Prey Confirmed

Category: Game Announcements | 1 comments

Seven years ago, a new FPS was announced. Its name was Prey and, as far as I remember, it promised, among the other features, a completely destructible environment. For example, you are in a room and start blowing away all the objects, including the floor and the walls. But the years passed, and the game was abandoned. In a recently CNN article it was rumored that Prey still lives and will be showcased at E3 2005. Moreover, George Broussard confirmed this rumors in the Prey forums available at the 3D Realms website: "Human Head Studios is developing Prey" (thanks: Shacknews). We remind you that Human Head Studios was looking in October 2004 for an experienced level designer for "an unannounced Doom3 engine based game", so there are big chances that Prey to be powered by DOOM III engine.

Sending us a hi-res screenshot, Activision unveiled more details about the story behind Quake IV, the FPS with DOOM 3 engine in the works at Raven Software. If you remember Quake II, the Strogg are cybernetic warriors made by mechanical frame and decaying body parts stabilized by flesh consumed in a systematic annihilation of other species and civilizations. In Quake II, in a desperate attempt to survive a Strogg attack on Earth, humans sent an assault force to the Strogg home planet. Earth's initial assault force was nearly annihilated immediately, but one marine managed to infiltrate the base, bring down their planetary defense systems, and kill the Strogg's collective brain and leader: the Makron. Quake 4 will begin with a full and final assault of Earth's forces against Strogg’s planetary defenses. The direct sequel will consist of a combination of solo missions and battles, part of this military campaign against the Strogg homeworld. The missions will be both indoor and outdoor and we will control vehicules from time to time and will use weapons like blaster, machinegun, nailgun and shotgun.
