On a flight from Los Angeles to New York, Oliver (Kutcher) and Emily (Peet) make a connection, only to decide that they are poorly suited to be together. Over the next seven years, however, they are reunited time and time again, they go from being acquaintances to close friends to ... lovers?3 out of 10 stars

Imagine the most somber Friends episode ever, where all the jokes have been replaced by mournful looks, all the farcical elements streamlined into a supposedly serious look at the life of rudderless twentysomethings, and Ross and Rachel have no sense of humor whatsoever. A Lot Like Love would be a lot like that. ...more

Hoping to foil his gold-digging wife's plan, a loathsome businessman (Anderson) arranges his own kidnapping. He quickly realizes, however, that plenty of other people want to hold him for ransom as well. Never one to turn down a project, Anderson should have no problem carrying his first starring role with the incredibly funny Mohr, Faison (Scrubs, Clueless) and Smith (The Bernie Mac Show) plotting against him. I'd distance this release from Be Cool a bit, however.

In what would become one of the most unlikely victories ever, the U.S. faces England during the 1950 World Cup. Wes Bentley re-emerges for the latest from director Anspaugh (Hoosiers, Rudy). While similar in theme to Miracle, The Game of Their Lives looks [a] less sappy and [b] much hotter than it's hockey counterpart. Butler and Rossdale support Bentley; Patrick Stewart has a bit role. We're unsure whether IFC Films will heavily promote the film, but it should be a hit in limited release theaters (and even more so on DVD).

Jim McCormick (Caviezel) dreams of piloting his town's community-owned hydroplane boat, Miss Madison, to victory in the sport's premier event, the Gold Cup. Based on a true story.I think this officially marks the end of Caviezel's pre-TPotC projects to be granted a theatrical release. Nearly four years old, Madison co-star Lloyd was young Anakin Skywalker in Phantom Menace, remember?

The MGM lion goes out with a sad whimper with The Amityville Horror, the last movie being distributed by the legendary studio as it gets sucked up into the clutches of Sony. I would treat the moment with a certain reverence and sadness were the movie itself not so damn funny. ...more

Teaming up, the pair learn that their respective causes both lead to a West African tyrant whose water disposal plant might be one of the biggest threats to the planet's ecosystem.5 out of 10 stars

If you ever wanted a lesson in anti-charisma, look no further than the solidly made but otherwise rather bland Sahara, starring two of the most high-profile blank spaces in acting, Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz. ...more

In Fever Pitch they take on most males' great loves, women and sports, while also making some interesting comparisons between love and obsession, infatuation and commitment, and success and failure....more

The destinies of three different people converge in a morally bankrupt metropolis: streetfighter Marv (Rourke) trawls the darkest areas of town, looking for the person who murdered Goldie (King) while she lay sleeping in his bed; a photographer (Owen) bent on revenge is blindsided by a cop's murder; and a policeman (Willis) near retirement is framed, and subsequently incarcerated, for a crime he didn't commit.4 out of 10 stars I think it was Woody Allen who said of watching pornographic movies, "For the first half hour all you want to do is have sex, after that you never want to have sex again for the rest of your life."...more

A sarcastic father (Mac) has plenty to say about his daughter (Saldana) wanting to marry a white boy (Kutcher). 6 out of 10 stars: "Surprisingly understated" is a phrase you'd never think to associate with Ashton Kutcher, but his performance in the amiable comedy-remake Guess Who is just that, as is co-star Bernie Mac's. In fact, the two actors seem to be having a contest to see who can most underplay their role, and the result is a slow burn of a movie that's moderately funny if a bit meandering. ...more

Terry Wolfmeyer (Allen), reeling from her husband's abrupt departure, grieves alongside her four headstrong daughters. As she takes to the bottle, Denny Davies (Costner), an old Wolfmeyer family friend, starts to become a very familiar face around the house.Binder wrote, directed, and grew a terrible mustache for his small role in Anger, his first high-profile project since The Mind of the Married Man was cancelled in 2001. Unsurprisingly, we hear that Allen dominates the film. Plus, Costner plays a former baseball player with a paunch -- also not a shock. The film was once granted a cushy, Oscar-y release late last December, but for reasons unknown to us it was pushed out into spring.
