Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
This graphically modern and interactive volume demands that readers get themselves—and their businesses—out of whatever rut they’re in. By first encouraging the acknowledgment of being stuck, Yamashita and Spataro, a consultant and business school professor, respectively, pave the way for escape. They describe the seven emotional manifestations of being stuck (feeling alone, overwhelmed, directionless, battle-torn, worthless, hopeless, exhausted) and provide guidance for moving past them, through case studies (from the U.S. Postal Service to Apollo 13), exercises, charts and mantras such as "find the quiet rock star" and "write the headline from the future." It’s alternately funny and thought provoking; and with rarely more than 200 words per page, it doesn’t resemble a typical dense business tome. Yet somehow, in its succinctness (and despite its overuse of catchphrases), this book renders specific and practical points as well as enough inspiration to help all kinds of individuals and teams break through mental walls.

Get unstuck and enjoy the process., May 1, 2005

Ok this book gets the prize for both original presentation and incredible content. Don't know if you ever read the adventure books as a kid where you chose your own path through the book to create a unique adventure each time. This book works the same way only it starts from identifying you particular stuck state and then walking you through the path to being unstuck. The creative presentation is used to present concrete ideas and techniques for moving forward. Given I have been in each of the starting stuck states, when I checked the paths that matched I could see how the techniques would help. A book where you learn something valuable and have fun doing is worth buying.

Enjoyable read, December 30, 2004

If nothing else, this was an enjoyable read. I love the concept of the design of it, which forces the reader to take an active role in the book. The format is along the lines of the "choose your own destiny" books that I loved to read as a pre-teen. Sure there are many cliches in it, but there are some thought provoking passages as well. Overall, I believe this would be a great choice for anyone looking to get out of a rut in their lives.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid, October 23, 2004
Reviewer:Yahmdallah (Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
This book is silly. You could get better results by buying a bag of fortune cookies, saving the fortunes from the cookies, taping them to a dartboard, and throwing a dart. With that approach, you could have had cookies, too.

All Jazz, no Substance, September 14, 2004

I was hoping for something along the lines of The Pursuit of Wow!! What I got was a jumble of pithy aphorisms, VERY hard to read fonts, and a book that is more work to read than I bargained for. The ideas are in the book I suppose, but a better editor could have made them more coherent.

I didn't even realize just how stuck I was until I read UNSTUCK. This book serves as a leaping off point to get things moving once again. Be it your organization, yourself, a relationship- the concepts seem to work in all areas. This book will get you to think and act in ways that may not be comfortable at first, but the results are worth while. Keep a copy on you at all times!

Great book for teambuilding, June 24, 2004
Reviewer: A reader
Unstuck is the perfect book to use for a teambuilding exercise. Pass the book out to each member and let them read it in their own way. Not only is the book short, but you don't even have to read it cover to cover -- the authors encourage readers to take a non-linear approach and suggest paths to becoming unstuck. Gather up the troops and compare the experiences. Did everyone identify the same problems with the team? What types of ideas were sparked by reading of the book?

Much of what the authors say is common sense. But, sometimes common sense is the first thing that's lost when things start to go wrong. Unstuck is more fun to read than most of the business type books out there, but it also includes references to more serious and in-depth resources. Plus, it looks good on a bookshelf.
