Welcome to the Cambridge University Commonwealth Society home page.
Note that the we are also known as the Cambridge Commonwealth Group.

The Cambridge Comonwealth Group

What is the CUCS?

The CUCS is a member of the Royal Commonwealth Society, an international organisation with branches in the different Commonwealth countries.

What do we do?

The CUCS was established in 1989 under the name of the Cambridge Commonwealth Group (CCG). We changed its name in October 2003 to emphasise our connection with the University of Cambridge. It is formally a branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society. Since 1998 it has been a registered University Society. Membership is open to all who support the aims of the Commonwealth.

Most of the members are students, but there is also a small group of permanent, locally based members, with wide experience of living and working in Commonwealth countries. The Group has close links with Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and with the British Council. It has few British student members but a number of other international, but non-Commonwealth, students.

Students make up the majority of the CUCS Committee and are fully involved in arranging the programme. A nucleus of local members provides continuity.

  • Links with the international Royal Commonwealth Society and wider
Commonwealth networks and with the local community. A number of Cambridge
students have been enabled to attend international conferences organised
by the RCS in London and elsewhere in the Commonwealth.
  • Continuous, successful existence for 14 years
  • A well supported programme of coach trips and other events
  • Annual dinners with distinguished speakers
  • A school visits scheme
  • Familiarisation tours of Cambridge.

If you are from a Commonwealth country and are interested in what we do, please contact us. We hope you will find the experience rewarding!
