CURAQ is deeply outraged, angered and shocked by the massacres
which took place in Baghdad and the holy city of Karbala yesterday
when cowardly terrorists killed 182 innocent civilians who were
commemorating the religious occasion of Ashura for the first
time since 1977 as it has been banned by the regime of Saddam
Hussein. Officials said that at least 112 people died in the
holy city of Karbala and about 70 were killed in Kadhimiya,
Baghdad and was Iraq's bloodiest day since the end of the war.
In defiance of the terrorists who are trying to create instability
and sectarian hatred in Iraq, the people bravely carried on
the Ashura rituals. The Iraqi Governing Council has called for
unity and declared three days of national mourning throughout
the whole country.
Our condolences and prayers go out to the relatives of the
dead.
