Welcome

The Cambridge University Railway Club was founded in 1911, and as such, is the third oldest railway club in the world.  Today its members' interests cover the whole of the railway scene, both in Britain and throughout the world.  The club is primarily run by students and staff of Cambridge University, but membership of the University is not required for membership of the club.

Our activities

  • Speaker meetings most Fridays in Full Term.  Speakers have come from Bombardier, GNER, GB Railfreight, and the Talyllyn Railway.
  • Visits have included the Bombardier factory and several depots, as well as our annual loco driving expedition.
  • Annual Dinner in Lent term, which has been addressed by the Chief Executive of Railtrack PLC, and Bob Symes of Tomorrow's World fame.
  • Annual Photographic Competition judged by the editor of a leading railway publication.
  • Termly journal Eagle, which includes news from the club and offers the opportunity for members to see their articles and photos in print.
Please see the termcard for details of the current term's events.
