SEATTLE -- If Ron Washington had penned the book Baseball for Dummies -- a particularly appropriate title considering the team he manages -- Monday afternoon would have been straight from chapter one.
If Washington was a preacher, this would have been the subject of his best fire-and-brimstone sermon.
If he was a teacher -- and some say that's exactly what he does best -- this would have been his class titled Baseball 101.
Only one problem.

Ace pitcher Kevin Millwood pulled the hood of his blue Rangers sweatshirt over his head. Then he pulled the drawstrings so tightly only his mouth, nose and eyes poked through.
The rest of his Rangers teammates, fresh from the Arizona desert, wore bulbous, red knit caps that made them look like old-fashioned police cars.
Charlton Jimerson, Seattle's late position player to make the team Sunday, stood in front of the Mariners dugout wearing a blue knit cap far below his ears _ and spoke for them all. Read more
