LOST FILM, 28 February 2003
Author: eva25at from Vienna, Austria

The negatives of all british films of Ronald Colman were probably destroyed during the 1941 London Blitz.

Plot Summary (In my own words, no spoiler since the film is lost): Violet Hopson is married to a lord but falls in love with Stewart Rome, the outcast of a noble family. He's a gambler, and she lends him 500 Pounds to pay his debts. But her husband is murdered. Since Rome is one of those old-fashioned gentlemen who does not want to compromise her, he does not allow her to sustain his alibi. A man of honor to the very end, he is willing to let himself be executed...Ah! Those were the days! - But at the end she wakes up and discovers that it was just one of those suspenseful dreams that help us pass the night...

Colman played just a bit part in this film. Critics complained about lack of motive & the unconvincing ending.
