Lawn Parties for Corporate and Social Groups
The club produces popular three- to four-hour lawn parties at the Stern Grove
lawns for up to 150 people, tailored to the client's requirements. These
events can be scheduled for any time of year, but most are in the May-through-October "dry season." The game played is Golf Croquet doubles - fast-paced, interactive, and learnable in minutes. The club provides a complete program - all the equipment setups, instruction and demonstration games, and court referees at the ready to answer questions and offer advice. Cost of the lawn party is $17.50 a person. There is minimum charge of $175.

The pace is easy, the tone is social, and the accent is on "serious fun."
|
The most popular format features a multi-tiered elimination tournament,
allowing winners to advance to more difficult games, while losers have a
chance to play against peer-level opponents. Because so few people are
familiar with the professional equipment and settings, everyone starts out at
the same level as novices - which makes for an ideal mixer. And because
croquet doubles calls for sophisticated partner communication and cooperation
in plotting winning tactics and strategy, these events can be model team-
building exercises. Croquet has been called "the ultimate social
calisthenic." But the pace is easy, the tone is social, and the accent is on
"serious fun."

SFCC coaches, equipment, and expertise provide the centerpiece for many lawn parties offsite - at private estates and corporate venues.
|
The enclosed lawns, flanked by pine and eualyptus, are a perfect setting for outdoor catering - typically a luncheon buffet or afternoon tea - with abundant courtside seating on the grassy berms (Clients may provide their own catering.)
With world-class equipment, fast lawns, and an unequaled coach-to-player
ratio, these lawn parties for croquet novices rival the offerings of the
West's best croquet resorts. The club can also design a croquet program for
an offsite venue of your own choosing.

About the San Francisco Croquet Club and Lawns
The San Francisco Croquet Club was the first U.S. Croquet Association club in Northern California when founded in 1981 and has become a widely recognized model for the development
of public and membership programs and event formats. The major event produced by the club is the San Francisco Open each May, one of the top-ranked tournaments in America.
The Stern Grove lawns at 19th and Wawona Street in San Francisco were rebuilt
in the late 80's on top of old and neglected bowling lawns - the largest
public venue exclusively for croquet in the United States. The club has
earned the strong support of the City through ongoing fundraising - largely
through lawn parties for corporate and social groups - and by providing free
introductory courses to the public year-round, as well as free and low-cost
mid-week programs.
|
The club offers a free curriculum built around the first three Saturdays of each month to instruct and encourage novice members. Membership is available at several levels.
REGULAR MEMBERSHIP: $180 a year, $15 per month. It includes all club privileges, voting rights, and USCA membership.
AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP: $50. For students, non-residents, or those with primary membership in another USCA affiliated croquet club. Except for students, residents of San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, and San Mateo counties are not eligible for this category.
TRIAL MEMBERSHIP: $45 for three (3) months. Voting rights and USCA membership are not included.
LIMITED MEMBERSHIP: $75. Includes Tuesday Midweek League and invitations to special events.

Public benefit programs at the Stern Grove lawns sponsored by the club include team competitions between area high schools. Pictured here are students and athletic directors from Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough and French American International School in San Francisco.
|
Perhaps because of its public, high-profile location, the SFCC has attracted a number of young and disciplined players. Among the top players who learned
the sport in San Francisco are Wayne Rodoni, national champion in both singles and doubles; John Taves, champion of the U.S. Open and twice winner of the San Francisco Open and other major tournaments; and Carl Hanson, winner of the San Francisco Open in both 1997 and 1998.

The San Francisco Croquet Club is a nonprofit 50l(c)3 public benefit
corporation chartered to promote the sport of croquet locally, regionally,
nationally, and internationally. Members of the club created and manage two
major croquet Websites: the official Website of the United States Croquet
Association, CROQUET IN AMERICA; and the award-winning
CROQUET WORLD ONLINE MAGAZINE
, which sets the world standard for comprehensive coverage of the sport.
