Song Parodies -> Reggie Jackson
Original Song Title: | "Jackson" |
Original Performer: | Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash |
Parody Song Title: | "Reggie Jackson" |
Parody Written by: | Michael Pacholek |
The original debuted in 1967, the year my favorite athlete of all time made his major-league debut.
He gave me baseball fever
hotter than a pepper sprout.
You know I'm talkin' 'bout Jackson
the man who hit the baseball out.
He's Reggie Jackson.
He'll get you down.
Yeah, he's Reggie Jackson.
He'll take you downtown.
Well, Oakland welcomed Jackson.
Took Charles O. Finley's wealth.
Three titles later, Charlie O got cheap.
Reggie looked out for himself.
So Reggie Jackson
went to New York.
"Hey, Charlie O!" said Jackson
"you're a real cheap dork!"
He breezed into that City
Billy Martin had a fit.
Feuded with his new teammates as well
but then they saw how he could hit.
That Reggie Jackson
Mister October
gave the Boston Red Sox
and L.A. Dodgers what-fer.
Years later George Steinbrenner
told us his biggest regret:
Lettin' Reggie go, and he signed with the Angels.
Hey, at least it wasn't the Mets.
That Reggie Jackson
500 home runs.
We watched Reggie Jackson
baseball's big gun.
Now he's a Hall-of-Famer.
On Old-Timers' Day he comes out
wearing Number 44 like days of old
teaching Yank kids how to clout.
He's Reggie Jackson
and that's a fact.
Yeah, he's Reggie Jackson.
See his legend stacked!
He gave me baseball fever
hotter than a pepper sprout...

This is baseball fan-tastic.....excellently written tribute.....five runs....I was thinking about doing one to this good old JC /JC duet...and may at some future time.
being a dodger fan, i don't have the sweetest memories of mr. jackson, but there's no denying that he was a great ballplayer and this is a great parody...5s
Plus, he was good in "Naked Gun." 5s
Michael, I love when you do a Johnny Cash song.......well done
There have been a handful of players who are freaky good come October, but none like Reggie. Enjoyed this.
The hard part, Royce, is doing these parodies "one piece at a time."
another baseball one, but I had to read this because I love the OS, although I only know the Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood version - but I can imagine Johnny Cash doing it - nice write, MP - 555
5 home runs
Very good parody, MP. Except that when Charlie Finley got cheap, Jackson took a one season detour in Baltimore before he went to New York.
