Reason why i got this over the Ipod is simple this has a 50 hr battery life, the Ipod hasnt. You can charge this for 3 mins and you get 3 hrs of battery so if you want to listen to music with out worrying about battery life then this is the best choice. There is a newer version of this the 1gb Sony NW-S705, but that costs £30-£40 more than this and all your getting is a fancy display and better design but your not getting much else. So the NWE507 is better value for money as both the 705 and 507 have 50 hr battery life and lgb memory. The 507 is very small about 3 inches in long and 1 inch wide, its light and no matter how hard you shake it, it wont drop a note. I went to Sony`s website, down loaded and installed the latest software and drivers for it so it was all up to date. MP3 sound is brilliant, once you get the hang of using Sonic stage(Sony`s MP3 software) copying CDs to MP3 is easy. It has a built in FM radio this is brilliant so you don`t have to listen to MP3s all the time. There are a few downsides :- 1) The controls are tiny so if you have big hands or fingers then you`ll need to use your finger nails to operate some of the controls 2) You cant backup MP3s from the 507 to your PC. 3) You cant use old Sony walkman earphones, you need to use proper Mp3 ones. 4) The body looks tough but it can get scratched easily so it needs to be protected. If Sony had given this the same `hard as nails` finish (as used in car paint) then this would be great but they didnt. 5) You need to carry its USB lead with you as it hasnt got a normal USB plug. 6) It doesnt have a microphone so you cant recorde you voice on to it. 7) You cant charge this away from the PC, it has to be plugged in to the PC via that USB lead so it can charge it self. But apart from this its great bit of kit and so far i am very happy with mine. Its small amd light enough to be carried any where and you cant feel its with you. The sound feels like its coming from a huge hi-fi unit but its not its coming from your tiny MP3 player. If you want a decent MP3 player with long battery life, good looks, good value for money from a good brand then this IS the one one to get, but be careful on how much you spend, this unit is 2-3 years old on e-bay these are going for around £40-£45-ish + postage. Dont pay more than this as you can buy a new 1gb NWE705 for £80. I cant comment on the long term usage as i`ve only had it for 7 days but so far so good.
