Description:
The Virtual Display Image Viewer is a free package including windows NT4.0/2000/XP/95/98/ME image converter/installer application and a Palm OS v3.5-4.x image viewer.
The viewer is primarily designed for taking diagrams, driving directions or schematics on the go.
Unlike conventional Palm OS image viewers the Virtual Display Image Viewer is capable of performing low quality zooming operation on the fly, which makes the navigation over the image and the search of a particular picture position on a small size Palm screen significantly easier preserving the same memory requirements.
Update Description:
Version 1.8a:
- Fixed problem with sporadic "invalid or unsupported bitmap" error popup when opening images from "browser" screen;
- Fixed armlet bug that caused crashes on Treo650 (thanks to everybody who helped to trace it down). If you are using SD card make sure the prevous version is not stuck in the handheld memory;
- Added 65536 colors mode support (tested with m505 emulator and Palm Tungsten C). Keep in mind that the decompression using 68K code becomes a significant slowdown with these image sizes, so check if the quality improvement realy worth the storage and speed in your usage case;
- Added standard 160x160, 320x320 and 280x160 resize dimensions to the resize options in converter. Increased granularity of rescaling available in the GUI;
- Added command line interface and CLI batch processing. Refer to the program online help ("Usage" page) for the list of options available and their detailed description;
- Added menu option for closing the viewer application
Version 1.6a:
- Added VFS (expansion cards) support (viewing, managing images etc.)
- Fixed bugs with displaying image right edge corrupted and left border showing up incorrectly on ARM devices
- Added support for a new image database format
- Converter app remembers the last used conversion format
- Improved color handling

- Added capability to browse installed images

I travel a lot at Paris and I use the subway and trains. I scan plans I need and I put in my tuungsten E. Verry good job!!!! usefull!!!

This program is sooooo useful!! And it's free too - I would have happily paid for it! =) If you need to put maps or diagrams onto your Palm, then this is a must-have!!

This is exellent program for viewing maps. Easy to navigate. Would love to see the function added to allow images to be stored to memory card.

Wanted to be able to carry scanned images of maps, documents, etc. with me on Palm. This is only viewer of many that I tried that will maintain sufficient detail to be useful. Need's some updating to allow for direct choice of Regular or Extended Card during install. Also, allows save of palm converted image but will not re-input this saved image without error message. In general though, very useful program.

It looks good on my Sony Sj30, The program works in hi-res,colour,320*320. A very good image viewer. With os 4.1.

Very good idea and implementation. Please make it exploit the sony's hi-res display (320x320) and it would've been great (I use Palm OS 4.1 on a monochrome device).
