Russia crushes Romania and moves into lead! (Refresh this page for latest updates)
Round 10 is over in the Chess Olympiad in Turkey. It seems that the days of GM draws are over for the top teams of this tournament, because the main matches today saw a large number of decisive results.
Russia were the big winners today. By crushing Romania with a perfect score, the Russians took the lead in the tournament. Fide World Champion Alexander Khalifman found his stride after a bad spell and beat Marin with a quick kingside attack in an Open Spanish game. And Morozevich made the Chigorin Queen's gambit look like a winning opening.
Germany beat Armenia. Artur Jusupov and Rustem Dautov continued with their winning ways: Jusupov took advantage of Rafael Vaganian's passive opening play on board one and Dautov realised a plus pawn in the endgame.
Ukraine beat Bulgaria, with Ivanchuk and Topalov drawing their game on board one.
Peter Leko beat Yasser Seirawan in the Hungary-USA match. Seirawan had to give a knight to free his trapped queen after being pushed into a passive position in a Caro-Kann game. Nick DeFirmian equalled the match on board 4. The American team still has a long way to go, because they haven't really had to face the strongest teams yet.
