The Netherlands move up the ranks
The Dutch team was the big winner on today's round after a confident 3˝-˝ score against Georgia. This means that the Dutch team joins the group of teams who are just behind the leaders Germany and Russia.
Germany drew their match with Slovakia: all four games were drawn. The same thing happened in the Russia-Israel match: 4 x draw. On board 4 Sakaev drew against Sutovsky with the Berlin defence: perhaps this variation is becoming the fashion in the Spanish game, as it seems impossible to lose with it nowadays...
Armenia have outclassed the surprise team Denmark with the score 1-3. Anastasian and Asrian decided the match on the two lower boards.
In the match Croatia-England, Michael Adams with the black pieces created pressure through the open lines on the queen side and eventually captured Ivan Morovic's knight, winning the game. This did not give the them a win in the match as Miles lost against Sulava.
In one of the top games on today's round, Alexei Shirov beat Alexei Fedorov in a Sveshnikov Sicilian game in the match Spain - Belarus.
Vassily Ivanchuk grinded the win against Peter Leko in the Ukraine - Hungary match.
The Philippine team overclassed China in the all Asian match.
