Review by Thomas Cap
"Kids - here is the game for your latest favourite movie."

First of all I want to thank the people at SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment Austria) and my press contact, the team at "Agentur Impuls", for sending me a copy of this game for review purpose.

Introduction:

The reviewed PlayStation / PSone CD is the PAL Promotion version (as always no difference to the retail from what I know) and was reviewed on a PAL SCPH-30004 on a Sony 100 Hz Trinitron PAL TV.

When playing the game for the first time I hadn't been to the movie yet but from TV and internet I had a general idea of the story. After watching the intro I jumped directly to the game and well - to tell in in short - I felt myself remembered of Tomb Raider - only less guns, less athletics and waaay less of these *cough* "other" things.

Well I don't waste your time - the game is mainly for kids and young teenagers - an adult might find it enjoyable, especially when he isn't a hardcore gamer and prefers the lower difficulty level for kids. But mainly this one is for kids only - really.
Graphics:

Well the graphics are that what one would except from a 3D Jump'n'Run for the PSone - the old system has reached its' limits way time back. Being used to the far superior PS2 ingame graphics I wasn't really impressed, but considering that the game is for the PSone I have to admit the graphics are average to good.

A completely other thing are the between level movies - they are scenes taken directly from the movie and were converted in very high quality - only thing is - since PSone games come on CD I wonder if the game would be a little more fun if they had used the space for more game than movies...

Music:

Well - music. Not good music nor bad music. A few clips from the movie music which are nice but not much more. Soundeffects the same - average like most of the game. I'm not lazy - there is really not much more to say...

Gameplay:

A 3D Jump'n'Run like you played hundreds of them on the PSone. There are some mini-games througout the game ( a shooting range, a race where you have to run from a mammoth and others...) and from time to time sort of puzzles which are quiet easy to solve since you only have to choose the right character to continue or remember a certain order of symbols.

Conclusion:

A "normal" game - some good things about it and some not so good. A title mainly for the younger audience.

PROS

  • in game movies taken from the beautiful Disney movie

  • mainly for your kids

  • nothing exciting about this game

CONS

  • mainly for your kids

  • nothing exciting about this game
