Dresden to host the 2008 Olympiad
At the FIDE General Assembly there were two countries bidding for the 2008 Chess Olympiad: Estonia, represented by the Minister of Interior and super-model Carmen Kass; and Germany, who put up the Lord Mayor of Dresden and the Prince of Saxony. The latter won 69:29. Picture and video report.

On the agenda of the 75th FIDE Congress in Calvià, Mallorca, was the nomination of the host city for the 2008 Olympiad (in 2006 it will be held in Turin, Italy). The two bidders were Tallinn in Estonia, the home of the legendary Paul Keres, and Dresden, the rising technology center of eastern Germany. Both cities sent high-ranking representatives to put their case to the delegates.
