DOS

Caprice32 is a 32bit DOS based emulator by Ulrich Doewich and in my opinion the best available for DOS/Win9X PC's. It's also the only DOS emulator to support the Romantic Robot Multiface ROM which when coupled with Insider makes up for the current lack of an inbuilt disassembler.

This beta Version of Caprice V2 is the last DOS emulator that Ulrich Doewich has written, he has now started work on Caprice V3 which takes the developments of V2 and ports them into the Windows environment

CPC-Emu is written by Marco Veith and is a stable emulator with some useful utilites included.
It's not the most powerful of the emulators but it's inbuilt disassembler is quite good.
CPC-Emu has had no new development work for a number of years so lacks the power of modern emulators.

CPE was written by Bernnd Schmidt and due to the fact that is written entirely in Assembler it is faster than CPC-EMU and handles things like overscan a lot better.
CPE has excellent sound emulation as well as built in .ZIP support and is an ideal emulator for owners of lower spec PC's.
It has been superceded by Caprice.

LINUX

Rainer Loritz has taken over the old Marco Veith DOS Emulator and ported it to Linux

WINDOWS

Arnold is a multi-platform CPC/CPC+ emulator written by Kevin Thacker, maintainer of the Amstrad WWW resource.
Currently in pre-release form, Arnold is targeted at accurate emulation of the hardware and therefore suitable for higher spec PC's.

The first windows version of Caprice, This is a work in progress and is not yet feature complete.

The latest release of Caprice with improved sound emulation and screenshot support amongst many other improvements

Rainer Loritz has taken over the old Marco Veith DOS Emulator and made it windows based

A DOS and Win32 compatible emulator written by Nicolás González

Multi Machine is a win9x based Emulator which supports not only the CPC/CPC+ range but also the ZX80/81, Spectrum, Enterprise & Jupiter Ace range of machines.
With all these extras you'd maybe expect the emulation to be fairly average but Paul Hodgson has written an excellent Windows based emulator.
However there has been no development on MTMW for a few years now.

Winape is an excellent Windows based CPC+ emulator with an inbuilt Maxam compatible Assembler.
This is the emualtor I would recommend for people starting out with CPC emulators due to it's ease of use.

'The most accurate CPC and CPC Plus emulation, many improvements to all aspects of the emulation, debugger and assembler. See the included whats-new.txt in the ZIP file.'
