Red Hot Pawn has been created by the authors of Rival Chess which can be downloaded here. Rival Chess is a standalone program and is not required to use the online chess features of RedHotPawn.
There are two versions of Rival Chess. The original version is Rival Chess for Dos. The latest version is Rival Chess for Windows. Both versions, as well as their source code, are free for download here.
Rival for Windows is compatible with Tim Mann's Winboard. Winboard provides all the necessary communication code so that any chess program that implements its interface can easily be set to play automated on an internet chess server such as the Internet Chess Club. Winboard is also very useful in allowing automated computer-versus-computer matches between compatible engines. See Tim Mann's site for a complete list of compatible engines and chess servers.
If not using Rival for playing on an Internet Chess Server or against other engines it is recommended to use it as a stand-alone program as it provides its own comprehensive graphical interface.
