Product Description:

Synchronize! Pro X is specifically engineered for OS X, taking advantage of the modern properties of the new operating system, such as pre-emptive multitasking, and supporting the full capabilities of the file system, including 255-character Unicode file names and OS X file permissions. Files are copied at the maximum speed possible, using pre-emptive multitasking to full advantage. It makes bootable backups of OS X system disks, without logging in as 'root'. Old files can be archived rather than deleted.

What's new in this version:

  • This update is free for anyone with a license purchased within the last two years; otherwise, a license renewal must be purchased.
  • Fixed a problem which caused the appearance of a hang during a bootable backup.

If you blindly sync your Home folder, Synchronize! Pro X will do exactly what it is designed and documented to do. It will copy files so that the newest files are in both folders.

This is not a good idea! There are files in your Home folder (most of them are in Preferences) that are specific to your particular computer, and if you copy them to another computer, they may not be correct for that computer. In addition, some files are protected from changes by the logged-in user, so you'll get errors if you make the attempt.

We recommend that you use the "Multiple Items" feature in Synchronize! Pro X to sync only those folders that you've specifically decided should be copied to the other computer - the Documents folder, the Desktop folder, and the Pictures folders are good to start with.

Here are a couple of rules you should follow when syncing two computers:

1. Sync the two computers before switching from one to the other.
2. Always ensure that the applications which use the files you are syncing are not open on either computer.

Because the folders that you should sync may change as OS X changes, if you have questions about other folders, please contact Qdea Technical Support.

Synchronize! Pro X ReviewA bit too expensive - Version: 4.1.1, 11/3/2005 02:40AM PST

I like the way this software works, and I have used it for more than two years. But now that Apple Backup does necessary jobs for me, I do not think I will continue updating.
