Product Description:

Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix. Using any browser that supports tables and forms (and Java for the File Manager module), you can setup user accounts, Apache, DNS, file sharing and so on.

Webmin consists of a simple web server, and a number of CGI programs which directly update system files like /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/passwd. The web server and all CGI programs are written in Perl version 5, and use no non-standard Perl modules.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed a possible remotely exploitable security hole caused by a bug in Perl.
  • Multiple DNS records and Cron jobs can now be deleted at once in their respective modules.
  • Apache define variables are automatically detected on Redhat, SuSE and Mandrake Linux.
  • The Dovecot module now supports the config format used by version 1.0.
  • The File Manager module can search for files by their content, and preview images.
  • Added options to the Sendmail module for controlling the order in which the mail queue is processes and flushed.
  • View the detailed change log.

Webmin has always looked promising, but it seems as though the modules that I most want to use are for Linux or Windows only as seen at http://www.webmin.com/standard.html

Nevertheless, it still has its uses.

I've been using this app on Linux for a few years. It's great for configuring servers at job sites that managers will have to manage later on. Prune down the modules and a tech savy, but not tech guru can manage it. No using vi to manage config files scattered accross /etc/
