Product Description:

IPNetSentryX is a simple and intelligent security application which protects your Mac from outside intruders. Unlike most other Internet security products, IPNetSentryX offers basic protection without erecting barriers for the safe use of your Internet connection. There is no need to "punch holes" in a firewall for specific applications you may wish to run. Instead, IPNetSentryX silently and intelligently watches for suspicious behavior, and when triggered, invokes a solid filter which completely bans the potential intruder from your Macintosh. The advantage is you don't need a network expert to configure your firewall or debug compatibility conflicts. Beyond this basic protection, IPNetSentryX offers unprecedented flexibility for specifying what traffic to allow on your network and responding to network events.

What's new in this version:

  • Traffic Discovery: Allow sort by data column with interval one second.
  • Traffic Discovery: View by Service - include protocol in service identifier.
  • Traffic Discovery: View by Netflow - include protocol in netflow identifier.
  • Traffic Discovery: track ICMP services by type and code.
  • Traffic Discovery: update network interface with each minute sample to accomodate changing interfaces.
  • Traffic Discovery: write out logs when Preferences update logs button is pressed.
  • Fix to recognize alternate kernel event notifications KEV_DL_LINK_ON and KEV_DL_LINK_OFF.

Product Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
  • BSD subsystem installed

IPNetSentryX ReviewVery Useful Tool - Version: 1.2.04, 1/11/2005 06:43AM PST

This app is a very good tool for detecting unauthorized network behavior. One strength is that it works well with other apps for a layered defense strategy. I have not noticed a temperature increase in my CPU (G4).

Don't know if it's normal, but my IBook G4 internal temp increases 35 degrees when I run IPNSX. Goes back down when I turn it off. Maybe Firewall has a dual meaning in this case.

IPNetSentryX ReviewWell You Want Protection? Try this! - Version: 1.2c6, 11/8/2004 03:14PM PST

WELL, all of the detractors should try the latest version! I have used IPNS for two years in Mac OS 9.x for two years: Truly, an great protection application! Now with OSX 10.3.6, IPNSX has matured into an EXCELLENT Firewall application. In fact, the truly neat thing is YOU can run BOTH IPNSX with Apple's inboard OSX firewall (w/o any conflict). You might say THIS combo IS TRULY an "Internet Condom" for the 21st. Century! Select all of the default rules, and RELAX: You are protected: Just select the defaults!
