Information Related to Version:

Product Description:

BitWise is a cross-platform, interoperable and secure IM service with the same features and interface on Windows, Linux and OS X. Features include voice chat, file transfer, file sharing, "tabbed" chats, whiteboards, logging, URL history, full unicode support, offline messaging and more. Because your security and privacy are paramount, we don't give or sell any user information to anyone, and you are in control of who has your user name.

What's new in this version:

  • Reduced lag during/between message transmission by 75%, very noticable on maxed out dial-up connections.
  • New voice protocol that does not require UDP forwarding or firewall setup by either party, in most cases.
  • When receiving voice data is delayed, catch up to real-time (i.e. drop old data) when data resumes.
  • Added option to "Conversation" menu allowing you to temporarily disable macro processing.
  • Conversations windows flash using "new message" setting when a file transfer is complete.
  • Buttons on file transfer manager correctly update when automatically resuming the selected file.
  • Fixed newline differences (Windows vs. Linux/Mac) from triggering Plus Key mismatch warnings.
  • Fixed UDP Alert window from continuing to show even after checking not to show the alert again.
  • Mac: Changed default audio buffer to 50 from 25 to alleviate choppy audio problems.

Product Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later

BitWise IM Reviewgreat app - Version: 1.0.2, 7/7/2004 11:24AM PST

been having it run all day, and no problems whatsoever. The only IM app that has managed to do file transfer (up and down) through my company's massive firewalls.

The whiteboard works, but despite great controls, your drawing skills will not improve.

The feeling that conversations and any data (whiteboard included) are encrypted without having to mess around with complicated options and setup is a massive plus. It's very very easy to use.

It's free to register and use, and it's stable.

Only comment may be the icons and interface. Nonetheless there are alternative themes one can download.

Does what it says it does and does it well. Would be nice to see video/audio chat in future versions.

That must be the port to VampireOS. :) No, seriously, I've never heard of that, and it must get harder every day to have a name that's completely dissimilar to every other name out there.

It's nice to see this is finally on OS X, and it's also nice to see MU grads' projects show up on VT. I'm impressed that you guys have stuck with this for as long as you have and really developed it into a maturing system. Congratulations. Though I still feel something like this is better suited to intranet application than full-time IM client replacement at this point.
