Bartas Technologies (Bartas Technologies)
Hello, all. Just an FYI, Bartas Technologies tracks all feedback for all products on a "Wish List" for evaluation. If you have a suggestion or feature request, head over to www.bartastechnologies.com and submit a support request or e-mail contact at bartastechnologies dot com (spelled out to avoid spam). This will get your suggestion or feature request on the Wish List. No attempt is made to scour all the download sites for suggestions, so the bartastechnologies.com site is the only 'official' place to submit such requests. Thanks!

I've been wondering for the past several months, is there not something better than a word processor for doing transcriptions? Someone, somewhere must have thought of writing an application designed specially for transcribing interviews. Well, the search is over. I recently took the free trial for a spin and was immediately impressed. After transcribing an interview with the trial version, I purchased the full version for my next project. I usually send Open Source developers a $10 or $20 donation when their software helps me, so the $20 price tag is very reasonable for a proprietary piece of software. The trial version is very usable and lets you determine if this program is right for you, so there is little chance of buyers remorse. I hope the developer considers QuickTime video and time code support in a future version, as I'm using it to transcribe both audio and video interviews and it's nice to be able to make notes about the picture in addition to transcribing the audio into words. It would be nice if the new document dialog boxes were more like other Mac programs, allowing you to create a new folder from within the application. But these two things are minor nit-picks. Overall it's a very solid 1.x product. The adjustable playback speed, backtrack-on-pause, and multiple speaker support are essential features of a good transcription tool and they and well implemented in this program. I found that with very little practice I was transcribing an interview more quickly and efficiently than ever before. It's a pleasure to come across such an elegant solution to a problem.

What can I add? A well-thought-out, extremely user-friendly program that works beautifully.
