While Silverfast works, OS X can be used only under Classic -- a major inconvenience. UMAX has long since stopped supporting its popular 2000U, which I own, but their software is easily obtainable online. Why would I need Silverfast?
Conversely, if Silverfast offered native OS X functionality, I'm certain many would purchase it instantly.

I can buy a new high end scanner for the same price as . . . - Version: 6.4.1r2, 2/5/2005 11:17AM PST

the base software you need to start with and get AI with the scanner, why buy AI as a standalone? I would like to resurrect my Lino 1400 Pro scanner, that Lino-Hell won't make an OSX version of their software for. When I posed this question to the sales rep over the phone he agreed.
AI is way to expensive. Look at VueScan for a more cost effective and just as feature rich product with free to minor upgrade pricing.
I have a version of AI that came with an MOR Epson scanner that will work with any Epson and it's OK, but not for the stand alone price and the updates will nickel and dime you to death.

Go through all the pop up menus fill in the serial number etc & on their web site it is still version 6.4.1r7d, 6.4.1r9 isn't there... Presumably they contacted Version Tracker to announce the update, so where is it?
Other than that brilliant software.
