Why PBEM when now you can play simutaneous turns? I always shudder at the idea of playing over email. I mean how long will a single game on a small map last? Maybe its just me never giving it a try, but I don't think I can just take one turn, send the email and wait an hour for someone else to make a move. I'll go crazy. Anyway, does anyone have the game yet? Bring on the user mini reviews.

And why oh why are the europeans the only smart ones to release most of their games on DVD now? I'm getting sick of installing 5 CD's for every game... and I'm not a keener enough to pre-order and get the DVD version.
That baffles me as well. I can't believe that the US computer market is so different from Europe. In the UK CD games have been rejected and I only ever see stores stocking DVD versions (not even online stores stock CD versions). Can't you get one of your Christian fundamentalist groups to complain to the Senate about it or get Jack Thompson on the case? They usually get a lot of press.

Or some way of playing via e-mail? (make a turn, save game, e-mail save game link to friend...)
I asked the same question a few weeks back, got the reply that PBEM is reportedly supported out of the box. yay!

I'll probably give 'er a whirl. I really didn't care much for Civ III, but Civ II is the only game that never leaves my PC, and I still love it after all these years.

Does anyone know if this game has a hot seat mode? Or some way of playing via e-mail? (make a turn, save game, e-mail save game link to friend...)

64MB for Civ? Holy crap.

I never found 2 worth upgrading to, and never even touched 3. I've had the original on every PC I've owned since 1992, though. The 3.5 diskettes are long since corrupted, so it ended up on a zip disk, then a CD. I love that game so much.

I got my best friend into it, too. We used to go over each other's houses and start a civ, alternating who got each settler and then each running the cities we founded. We'd then save on a disk when we left and continue it on our own, haha. I don't know how we managed to cooperate that well...

17. Requirements... Oct 25, 14:00 ChaosLord

You don't need a card with pixel/vertex shading for Civ4 unless you turn on extra crap. The official minimum and recommended requirements for Civ4 are as follows.

MIMIMUM
# Windows 2000/XP with SP1 or higher
# Intel Pentium 4- or AMD Athlon CPU with at least 1,2 GHz
# 256 MB RAM
# 64 MB graphics card with Hardware T&L (GeForce 2/Radeon 7500 or better)
# DirectX 7 compatible soundcard
# DVD-ROM drive
# 1,7 GB free hard disk space

RECOMMENDED
# Windows XP with SP1 or higher
# Intel Pentium 4- or AMD Athlon CPU with at least 1,8 GHz
# 512 MB RAM
# 128-MB graphics card with DirectX 8 support (pixel- and vertex shaders)
# DirectX 7 compatible soundcard
# DVD-ROM drive
# 1,7 GB free hard disk space

The dvd-rom drive requirement is for the European version, US version is going to be released as 2 regular cds.

I'd have to go with the original Civ, because I hated it so much... But at least it'd force me up off my ass to do some exercise on the beach : )

As a true Grognard nerd, possibly The Operational Art of War wargame.

I think I'd prefer Civ, but Oblivion seems to be huge enough to suck a lot of time, and Simcity has a lot of replay value as well.

Zathrus, no. The GF2 and GF4MX are DX7 compatible and DO NOT have any kind of shader pipeline.
