Gametap Review
If you’re a gamer that yearns for playing the games of your youth, then enjoy the nostalgic feast that is Gametap!
When gamers talk about “the good ole days”, what they are referring to is the lower bit gaming of their childhood. Yes these older games blow graphics wise, but the nostalgia of every gamer’s introduction to the hobby lives in our jaded hearts to warm us from the mindless craptacular sequel fests of games today.
Enter Gametap. This company is trying to bring the “ole days” back to us with a monthly subscription. “But I can play all that stuff on an emulator for free!” you say. Yes my dear gamer this is true, but most emulators lack polish and reliability and it’s ILLEGAL.
You may think me not “hardcore” because of my stance on the fence of legality, but Gametap offers stability and a continuous updating to their game inventory.
Gametap offers a free trial, and if you like what you see you can sign on for the monthly fee. What this monthly subtraction from the bank gives you is access to all the games of yore: Genesis, 80’s arcade, old PC titles, some recent PC titles, Dreamcast, Sega 32X, Intellivision, Master System, Atari 2600, and Commodore 64 games.
The folks at Gametap have created a pretty easy user interface in finding the games you yearn to play in remembering your gaming virginity. Users can choose to find games by system, types of games, and your personal picks. All your account information can be accessed when you log on. Game dock shows the most recent games you’ve played.
Accessing the games brings up a menu that loads the game. Game load time can range from a few seconds with older games, up to 20 minutes for some of the more recent PC games on a broadband connection.
If you’re a gamer that yearns for playing the games of your youth on a stable and LEGAL interface, head on over to Gametap.com and take a free trial. If you cheap-o gamers can spend 15 bucks a month on WoW, you can spend a little quality time with some old friends for the same price. Enjoy the nostalgic feast my friends.
