Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species

A fun strategy game in this long-running series, worth owning if you enjoy strategy games that are fun, easy to get into and not overly complicated.

Watch out animal lovers! This game is amazing. I was a little disappointed with Zoo Tycoon 2’s construction: having to build the fences and the lack of a variety of information on the animals featured. Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species took care of both of these problems. There are ready-to-use sections of land, already fenced in. There is a little more information and cool facts about the endangered species.

With the smooth play of not having to worry about placing fences and keeping animals enclosed, I found this version much less frustrating and immensely more fun than the original Zoo Tycoon 2. The only problem I had was that after some time of play, the game would freeze, and I would have to exit without the ability to save. However, that may be because of my computer or graphics card.

I was fascinated with the clear graphics, the range of endangered species, the education provided for the animals, and the plain old fun of creating your very own zoo! I have always loved animals, and also enjoy business. This game combines both of those features. It’s great for all ages, and very educational.

You can view your financial status at any time, zoom in and out, change your view mode, and more. I love the stars in the upper left that you just can’t seem to take your eye off of. After a period of doing well, you receive a sparkle and fill of a half star. It makes you want to keep playing to get up to 5 stars. You will also receive awards for various things, such as the number of guests that have visited and how diverse your zoo is.

With Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species, you will be able to care for about 20 of the rarest animals, create vehicle tours for your visitors, make a playground, erase items with ease, and much more.

I was surprised with the fun I had with this game, as it is so much more enjoyable than the original. This game has endless hours of play, you are able to learn about animals you may not have known even existed, but most of all, you can create and run your own zoo with 20 endangered species! It’s fun, educational and makes a great gift for anyone who loves animals.

Highs
Solid gameplay; decent graphics and sound.

Lows
There's not a lot wrong with the game, but it is by no means revolutionary. The tried-and-true strategy formula delivers a fun game, but it's not outstanding.

Final Verdict
A fun strategy game in this long-running series, worth owning if you enjoy strategy games that are fun, easy to get into and not overly complicated.
