NYT Ortelius Maps Edition -- World
One of five maps in the exclusive New York Times limited-edition set published by Oppenheimer Editions. Each map is taken from a rare and unusually fine 1579 edition of the Ortelius Atlas, the world's first comprehensive atlas. Each map captures every nuance of cartographer Abraham Ortelius's original hand-colored engravings, including the patina of the antique color, with remarkable accuracy. The maps, in a limited edition of 350, are reproduced on high-grade paper and measure 16 1/2" x 21" -- the exact size of the originals. Prices are subject to change at any times as these maps are in a numbered limited edition and prices will increase as the edition sells out.

The Skating Pond, 1862 (Negative No. 76280)
"Central-Park, Winter: The Skating Pond, 1862" Artist: Lyman W. Atwater (1835-1891) New York city's first organized ice-skating rink opened in Central Park in December of 1858. The southeast corner of the park was flooded, and men and women were required to skate in separate areas. By 1860, coed skating (as depicted here) had become a fashionable pastime for the upper and middle classes. The New York Times, in collaboration with the New-York Historical Society, offers this work as a fine art print, reproduced with high-density pigmented inks on heavyweight paper. This is one of hundreds of "Impressions of New York" prints amassed by the historical society. Available in two sizes. The original is a hand-colored lithograph, 18" x 26.75"; printed and published by Currier & Ives. (Negative No. 76280) © 2005 New-York Historical Society

American White Pelican, Plate 311
White Pelican, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos This historic, limited edition John James Audubon Birds of America print is the world's only first-generation, facsimile re-creation of the actual antique Audubon original. Unframed, and measuring more than two feet by three feet, this impressive, sealed, pencil-numbered, image was printed with the finest ink on a heavy sheet of acid-free paper, specially toned to match the average color of the antique original. Each image is in a limited edition of 500 prints, produced by Princeton Audubon Ltd. This selection of prints is presented by The New York Times Photo Archives, in collaboration with the New-York Historical Society, which has the world's largest collection of original Audubon works. Fewer than 140 remaining prints from a limited edition of 500.
