WELCOME TO THE
KOLTY CHESS CLUB WEB SITE!

We meet most every Thursday evening at the Campbell Community Center

(We meet in the Orchard City Hall at the corner of Winchester Blvd. and Campbell Ave., 1 West Campbell Ave., Campbell, CA 95008-1004)

The Kolty Chess Club meets almost every Thursday evening, starting at 6:30 and running until about 11:30 P.M.

Events: Tournament (USCF Rated), Skittles (chess for fun - there is usually someone to play), and special events on make-up nights.  Tournaments are usually 5 or 6 rounds with one make-up night.

The Club has ongoing USCF rated tournaments with people of ratings from beginner to expert.  There are about 60 active members and an additional 10-15 people show up to play skittles (untimed) and/or 5 minute blitz chess.

In order to play in the USCF rated tourneys, you must be a USCF member which can be obtained through the Club for $49 (adult), less for children.   You must either pay for an individual tournament or be a Club member for the entire year at $160 (adult), $107 (children), $107 (seniors).

Note the USCF dues as follows:

Regular: $47.00/yr (Chess Life 12 issues/yr)
Youth: $23.00/yr (19 and under Chess life 12 issues/yr)
Scholastic(14 and under): $17.00/yr (schoolmates 4 issues/yr)

(Check out the most up-to-date dues at the "JOIN" link on the USCF page below.)

Byes are available for any round if you call me prior to the Club meeting.  I make up the pairings on Wednesday evenings, so it helps if I know by Wednesday, but PLEASE call if you can't make it so that I can notify the other players.

Normally a tournament will be a Swiss system with the people grouped into 2, 3, or 4 groups by rating.  At the end of each tournament there is a "Make-Up Night".  Alternatively, you can participate in an "Extra-Rated Game", or participate in a "Speed Chess Tournament".

From around 6:30 till 7:30 Frisco Del Rosario gives a chess lecture/lesson. He is now the author of a new book, "A First Book of Morphy".

Equipment:  The club has sets and boards with are available to be used.  Clocks are not furnished except for a few personal ones that I lend out.
