The Denker Dream is a fund established by Far North Chess, Alaska's USCF Affiliate, and the Alaska Chess League to assist the Alaska High School Chess Champion with participation in the "Denker Tournament of High School Champions".

We believe that Chess provides an excellent avenue of development and challenge for  students whose abilities and drive are intellectual.  Through Chess children and young people of all ages learn to think strategically and develop mental and physical discipline in the competitive arena.  These skills provide the tools necessary for greater achievement in their adult life.  The skills learned through Chess help produce our future Surgeons, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers and Strategist.

The Denker Tournament of State High School Champions is the pinnacle of a young man or woman’s Chess study and experience.  The very best  High School Chess players from across the United States come together to engage in a battle of intellectual strength and endurance.  To qualify for the DTHSC is a tremendous achievement.  To play in the DTHSC  is an experience that holds the promise of a great future.

The DTHSC is held in unison with the prestigious U.S. Open Chess Tournament.  Scholarships totaling $1,200 are awarded to the top four finishers. In addition, the University of Texas at Dallas  will award up to two full scholarships valued at approximately $40,000 each.  This year’s DTHSC will take place August 7-12 in Phoenix, Arizona.

The DTHSC is made possible through the generous support of recently deceased Grandmaster Arnold Denker, winner of the 1944 U.S. Championship and noted Chess philanthropist and former board member of the U.S. Chess Trust.

Alaska has never sent its High School Champion to participate in the DTHSC.  We believe that our Denker Fund is just the beginning in presenting to Alaskan children and young people a training ground for future excellence.

We are trying to raise $3000 to provide transportation and housing for the High School Champion and his coach.  If you are able to make a donation to this fund you will be assisting a future leader of our community.
