The I-D Booklet

You may print this and show it to others. But, this article will eventually be part of a book that I am writing. So, please do not distribute it widely.

Every year, lately, I type the I-D Booklet. This is probably what I am most known for, in the checkers world. And I think I've set some standards for a nice-looking, well-organized checkers book, with few typos. This is a booklet of the games which were played in the I-D (Inter-District) Mail Playoffs, the U. S. national championships of checkers-by-mail. In the past, the games were annotated by Richard L. Fortman, then World Checkers-By-Mail Champion, and ACF Bulletin Games Editor. Starting last year, the games have been annotated by Jerry Childers, now the World Checkers-By-Mail Champion, and ACF Bulletin Games Editor.

Mail players tend to play only the toughest openings, for two reasons:

  1. They try to spring something new on their opponents.
  2. They hope their opponents will not have the latest news on these openings.

And so, the I-D Booklet becomes an opening book on the toughest openings, with most of the latest ideas on opening variations.

Anyway, they are pretty good booklets (about 33 to 40 pages long). And the ACF has them all the way back to 1990, for $5 each. I'm typing the 1996 edition, right now. Well actually, I'm typing this html document, right now.
