This ending is from the game Webb-Loy, Wood's Ladder 1982. Gene Webb died a few years ago. In this game, I figured that I had a draw. But, Red killed me off in a few decisive moves:

3-7! 12-8 7-11! 8-3 11-15 RW. I resigned here. How would the game continue? I'll show two variations:

  1. First let's see what happens if the piece on 13 stays where it is: 3-8 (3-7 15-10 RW) 24-27. This piece kings and then marches over to 17 to win the piece.
  2. 13-9 (The sooner the better) 15-18 (Typical winning try) 3-7 24-27 7-10 (7-11 27-31 similar to var. 1, above) 27-31 10-6 31-26 6-10 26-22 10-6 22-17 6-10 18-15! RW
