Laura Sherman, once active in tournament chess, recently entered the world of filmaking and decided to write a screenplay about the average tournament player and his or her passion for the game!

In The Open is about six friends who get together for a local tournament, improving their lives and their games. Each character has their own story that intertwines with the others. The friends are all very different in personality and interestes, but they have the common love of the game to bind them together.
