RICHMOND JUNIOR CHESS organizes chess clubs, tournaments and coaching for children in West and South West London.

Founded in 1975, Richmond Junior Chess Club has long been recognized as the country's leading chess club for children. Many of our former members, including such players as Luke McShane and Jonathan Rowson, are now Grandmasters or International Masters.

We also maintain a panel of chess tutors who are available for both private and school tuition. Our services for schools incorporate beginners' courses and support for school chess clubs.

Our annual tournament programme includes six Rapidplay Tournaments (open to players of all ages and strengths), two individual junior tournaments and a schools tournament. We also run the Richmond Schools Chess League.

We run teams in competitions organized by the English Primary Schools Chess Association, the National Youth Chess Association, the Southern Counties Chess Union, the Thames Valley League and the 4 Nations Chess League.

Richmond Junior Chess recommends - and works in close conjunction with - the chessKIDS academy website. This website also includes FAQs, information for parents and teachers and a series of articles about junior chess.

We are currently looking for sponsorship for our tournaments and activities.
