Corinthian Set - Pieces on Board
|
The Corinthian Order of architecture first came to prominence circa 400 BC,
and became prevalent thereafter throughout the Grecian and then Roman world.
The style has lent itself superbly to creating an aesthetically beautiful
chess set, whilst maintaining the practical definition of each piece,
characterised by its strong linear features and angular segmentation.
|
Made
from either solid sterling silver or solid antimony pewter, the set is made
of 34 individually hand cast chessmen, with each piece further hand etched &
worked to further enhance the detailing. The king stands at 2 ½ inches. Each
piece is then based with nappa leather, bearing the Boethia symbol.
Corinthian Set - Pieces
A single white pawn in the set is hand initialled by the designer, Jennifer
Martin. The pieces are presented in a solid Emboya wood box made
specifically for the set. The interior is fully leathered with a cushioned
lid, with the pieces themselves resting on shelves made to size. The box
itself bears the pewter Boethia Knight clasp.
Corinthian Set - Box
The board (sold separately) as shown is exclusive to the Boethia Collection,
and is beautifully made from Emboya and Maple, with a fully leathered base.
The squares are 35mm, and stands 40mm from the ground for a elevated
playing surface. Again it bears the pewter Boethia Knight.
Delivery: Each chess set & board is custom made and delivery takes
approximately 3-4 weeks. |

Nestled within the Grampian Mountain Range in Scotland, Glen Mor remains a
place of hidden and unspoilt beauty. In area it is of
no importance, but rather, with its lush valleys and lochs, it is a place
that captures an atmosphere that is undeniably Celtic. It is this Celtic
nature that is very much the inspiration for the Glen Mor chess pieces.
Celtic design in itself is inherently diverse and spreads across hundreds of
years; from early pagan religion to Christian adaptation, it very much
reaches into this century with the architecture of Macintosh.

Glen Mor Set - Pieces On Board |
It is this diversity that we have sought to capture in the set under the
unifying Celtic banner; each piece carries a subtly different style, such as
the runic symbolism on the Bishop, the angular architecture of the King, and
the organic leafing on the pawn. Each piece is then based with nappa
leather, bearing the Boethia symbol. A single white pawn in the set is hand
initialled by the designer, Jennifer Martin.

The Tudor period in England brought about an unusual evolution of design
that so often fused very robust forms with intricate elements to create
something distinctive and iconic. Our Tudor chessmen have been inspired by
the style of the period, from its architecture to its jewellery. The pieces
maintain a simplicity in their basic form and are each adorned with the
Roses, symbolic of the era. Certainly as a set, it balances the aesthetic
and playing qualities superbly well.
