ACC Online E-mail Newsletter

The ACC Online E-mail Newsletter is a service of Arlington CC and myself. It is sent out usually a couple times each month, typically announcing upcoming local events and reporting the results of events just completed.

If you wish to subscribe to the e-mail service/mailing list, just drop me a message and you'll get the next one as soon as it is sent out.

If you ever find the list annoying and wish to be removed, just send me a message with "Remove" as the subject header.

Below will always be the latest e-mail newsletter, with all URLS hyperlinked. I only update this page once in several blue moons, there are 1-2 issues out each mont

FLASH!!! FLASH!!! FLASH!!! FLASH!!! FLASH!!! FLASH!!! FLASH!!! FLASH!!!

This Friday, August 17th, the club will be meeting at The Lyon
Village Community House. Central United is closed this Friday due to
renovations in the basement where we meet. Already, the lights are 300%
better and this is sure to make out meeting site even better in the long
run so we'll just put up with the inconvenience for now.

Lyon Village Community House is very easy to find, being right off Lee
Highway at 1920 N. Highland, the Colonial building with the cupola. I
have a webpage up which has directions, links to the Lyon Village
Community http://www.wizard.net/~matkins/lyon.htm

PLEASE TELL ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO ATTENDS THE CLUB AND DOESN'T HAVE WEB
OR E-MAIL

Coming - 65th Annual Virginia Closed State Championship, Sept 1-3 in
Charlottesville, Virginia. Same site at the Charlottesville Open above.

NEWS+++++ The Best Western is sold out due to a UVA Football weekend and
a tour. Not only is the Best Western sold out, but I am told that many
of the other hotels are selling as well. If you haven't yet made a
reservation for Labor Day Weekend, AND you intend to play, dont expect
to be able to find a room if you start looking on Saturday. While
Charlottesville might be a sleepy southern town most of the time (a ride
down Rt.29 sure looks like Northern Virginia to me though!), it is NOT
so sleepy during a UVA football game! Below are all the hotels within a
few minutes of the Best Western:

Quality Inn 434-971-3746 (BEHIND Red Lobster acrossroad from chess site)
Days Inn 434-293-9111 (BESIDE Red Lobster across road from chess site)
Super 8 434-973-0888
English Inn 800-786-5400 or 434-971-9900
Econo Lodge 434-978-4007
Royal Inn Motel 434-973-2111
Comfort Inn 434-293-6188
Knights Inn 434-973-8133
Cavalier Inn (another Best Western) 434-296-8111
Fairfield Inn (Marriott) 434-964-9411
Hampton Inn 434-978-7888

The U.S Open is over, elections over and delegate meetings over. The
new PB members are Shutt, Camaratta, and Frank Brady, with John McCrary
winning re-election to the PB.

The new officers are:
John McCrary Pres.
Steve Shutt VP
Frank Camaratta Tres.
Bob Smith Sec.

-------------------------
The voting totals were:
Shutt 244
McCrary 232
Camaratta 231
Brady 212
John 190
Knudson 171
Holliman 133
Pechac 125
Draney 73
Sloan 22

After Years of controversy, OMOV has passed. Apparently with the next
USCF election, any USCF member aged 16 and over can vote for the
officers. Hurray for democracy!

Changes to the TLA rates and procedures appear to have referred back
to the new Policy Board. The USCF Office decided to stop "Tracy" letters
for 4 months to allow the new PB, affiliates and the office time to work
out the problems.

I think that the Drug Testing debates seems to be that we work hard to
avoid drug testing policies and limit it to only the Olympiad tournaments
and that the USCF FIDE reps were ordered to take anti-drug testing
positions.
