The Great Pawn Hunter
Chess Tutorial

A Simple Game

Here is a simple game that I learned when I was just starting out in chess. I hope you have fun learning it...and beating your friends too!

1) e4...e5
2) Bc4

Even though the player with the white pieces wins this game, bringing out the Bishop first, violates the opening rules of development. The rule is: Bring out Knights before bishops!

2)......Nc6
3)Qh5

When you develop your pieces, try to develop with threats. The Bishop and Queen are both attacking the pawn on the f7 square. However, don't just try to attack with a couple of pieces... use all of your army! Look at the rest of the white army sitting on squares a1,b1,c1,g1,and h1...and the player with the white pieces has not castled to get the king to safety! I don't mean to lecture, I just want you to be a strong attacking player...no matter who you're playing against.

3)......Nf6

The player with the black pieces has neglected to look at the threats that the player with the white pieces is making...like attacking the f7 square. Making the move 2)... Nf6, for Black, would have prevented the white Queen from moving to the square h5! Try to bring out your King's Knight before you bring out your Queen's Knight

4) Qxf7 checkmate!
The Queen checkmates the uncastled king!

There is a simple game for you. I hope you had a fun time learning it. But please remember: Try to see what threats your opponent is making. Then, ask yourself this question: Are my threats stronger than their threats? If your threats are not stronger then you have to go on the defense. If your threats are stronger then go on the attack and have lots of fun.

Find a good move for me, ok.
