REFINISHING LEATHER IN THE EINSTEIN ROOM
The leather inserts (10 of the 14 panels) did not match on the tables in the Einstein room, so we had to match them all to the original color, which meant total refinishing.

The wood has been masked off, and leather tech John Russ is applying the L/V color with a light-duty HVLP sprayer.

After masking the area, the leather is prepped by first cleaning it to remove all soil, then by a methanol rub which stripped the incorrect color someone else had left behind, and softened the original finish beneath in order to ensure proper adhesion.
As a happy by-product of this process, the majority of the minor surface damages (scratches, gouges) which were in the original leather finish, are repaired due to the "melting" and "flowing out" of the original finish during the methanol rub.

Once we'd removed the paper, I caught this shot of John's critical eye checking out the color match.

Another successful refinish job for our leather department. Our success depends on the success of our crackerjack technicians.
Thanks to John for a job well done!
