Unleashed - DVD Review

Tuesday, 29th November 2005

Burnout Revenge (Xbox/PS2/PC) - Review

Anyone sick of standard ‘lap races’ will find something totally refreshing about Burnout Revenge. Whilst indeed, Burnout Revenge features these standard races you’ll also find a plethora of other modes to boot, and as the title suggests, they mostly revolve around the theme of crashing into things at speed.

Shrek SuperSlam (PS2/Xbox) - Review

Taking a departure from the usual platform fest for their prized Shrek licence, Activision and developers Shaba Games should be at least applauded for bringing something new to the table. Billed as a kiddie title at heart, but still managing to feature some pretty aggressive fighting, Shrek Superslam actually proves there’s life in the old franchise yet.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted (Xbox/Xbox 360) - Review

Need for Speed: Most Wanted is the latest in the ever successful ‘Need for Speed’ franchise – that much is obvious. What demands closer inspection though is whether or not we really needed another instalment in the already overcrowded genre?

LMA Manager 2006 (PS2) - Review

Anyone who is into football management in any capacity already knows that Football Manager is the franchise that gets most football fans hot under the collar. What happens though if you can’t stand the series, haven’t got a PC capable of running the game, or hell just want a console experience?

The Matrix: Path of Neo (PC/Xbox/PS2) - Review

Many will see ‘The Matrix: The Path of Neo’ as the game that should have been released right from the start. Apart from a dodgy MMORPG and another poor interpretation of the Matrix universe (Enter The Matrix), players gasping to have a plot based more on the blockbuster movies have been left out in the cold, well until now that is.

Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood (Xbox) - Review

If Ubisoft know anything, it’s when they have an excellent franchise on their hands. This years Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 was one of the more immersive WW2 squad based shooters that we had come across. Featuring the trials and tribulations of Sgt Matt Baker of the 101st Airborne Division, BIA was one of developer Gearbox’s greatest achievements in their prestigious history.

Colosseum: Road to Freedom (PS2) - Review

Ancient Rome seems to be taking over from WW2 era games as the time line of choice. Not only have we had Gladiators, Against Rome, Spartan and Spartan: Total Warrior, but now Koei brings us Colosseum: Road to Freedom.

Spartan: Total Warrior (PS2/Xbox/GC) - Review

Spartan: Total Warrior is the latest 'button bashing' fest from the guys over at Creative Assembly (Rome: Total War). Trying to take the series even further, Spartan features a breathtaking soundtrack, legions of warriors fighting on screen at once and a pretty destructible environment. The end result may be that the game looks great but will the limited gameplay be enough to see you through the multiple acts the game offers?

Civilization IV (PC) - Review

Ever since the first edition of Civilization hit the computer way back when, the chance to take control and shape a nation throughout the different ages have enthralled many people. Now into its fourth incarnation can Civilization keep up the high standards?

Call Of Duty 2 (PC) - Review

The long awaited sequel developed by Infinity Ward/Activision has now hit our shelves and now we can give you an insight of what you can expect from the highly anticipated WWII first person shooter.

The Movies (PC) - Review

Theme Hospital, Theme Park, Rollercoaster Tycoon just about every genre has been catered for, each with its own level of success. One area that has passed relatively untouched however is the fine art of making movies (and not that smut on the interweb either).

Capcom Classics Collection (PS2/Xbox) - Review

Every man and his publisher are currently jumping on the retro bandwagon and Capcom are the latest outfit trying to get in on the action. It’s a shame they didn’t pick up the gauntlet earlier though as this collection is probably the best out of the whole bunch.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (Xbox) - Review

Well cover me with batter and call me a deep fried Mars Bar. It’s taken game developers this long to finally make a decent ‘First Person’ survival horror.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories - Review

The Grand Theft Auto franchise has always pushed every format the title was released on. The latest, Liberty City stories now has its chance to get its teeth into Sony’s new PSP. Handheld specialists Rockstar Leeds who produced the magnificent PSP version of Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition had the seemingly impossible task of scrunching the whole of Liberty City into a single UMD.

Pro Evolution Soccer 5 - Review

This review comes almost a fortnight after the release date of the latest Pro Evolution instalment. That’s not down to any tardiness here at IC headquarters, more a reflection on the additional time that this game needs to be properly play-tested and scored. If it’s closest rival, the Fifa series, has always been the ‘plug and play’ football title, Pro Evo is the deep thinking mainframe, maybe not as pretty but with vastly more longevity.

SSX On Tour - Review

Many people were asking where the SSX series could possibly go from here, and even though SSX on Tour will be instantly recognisable by the many fans of the series, the developers have managed to incorporate so many neat new touches and refinements to the game it still feels like a brand new experience, an improved one at that.

FIFA 06 - Review

You can set your watch with EA, every single year at this time the latest and hopefully greatest edition of FIFA is released to an eager fan base. Last years effort was in our opinion one of the best version to date. So with that in mind, this year EA Canada has their work cut out to take the franchise onwards and upwards, something we all want to see.

System Rush - Review

System Rush is Nokia’s latest attempt to push the N-Gage as the forerunner in mobile phone gaming. Whilst it’s true that the phone has enjoyed some success with recent games it’s getting increasingly difficult for the N-Gage to compete with today’s technology.
