Deep Shredder vs. the World

The first round of voting has already begun in the challenge match pitting current Computer Chess World Champion Deep Shredder against the rest of the world.

This event promises to be more than a fascinating match, the organizers have gone out of their way to give players plenty of reason to tune into the site regularly.

Voting on the starting position will continue until next Saturday, an interesting idea to cut to the chase - instead of slowly plodding through theory, ten suggested starting positions have been chosen. The early favorite in the public polling was for the World to defend a Closed Sicilian (sounds like a good idea), but there are many options, and the vote-casting has just begun.

Besides the purely sporting interest in trying to help the human cause against the winner of the prestigious Paderborn Computer championship, there will be regular prize drawings for members of the public.

Deep Shredder will calculate its moves every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On the other days of the week the whole world will be thinking about the next reply. Deep Shredder will calculate for approximately 18 - 20 hours per move on a powerful 1 GHz Pentium III dual processor system, specially acquired for this game. Deep Shredder's analysis will always begin at midnight.

You can vote for your move selection every Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday between midnight and 8:00 pm at VOTE Move. The current position can always be found at Actual Position.

You can play through the moves of the game in the Replay Zone. There is an online bulletin board for comments and discussion of the next move, though these features appear for the moment to be predominantly in German. The World team will not receive any suggested moves during the event.
