Welcome!

Welcome to the website for Scid ("Shane's Chess Information Database"), a chess database application for Windows and Linux operating systems. Scid is free but a donation (which can get you Scid on a CD-ROM with a high-quality million-game database) is encouraged; see the CD-ROM page for donation details.

With Scid you can maintain a database of chess games, search games by many criteria, view graphical trends, and produce printable reports on players and openings. You can also analyze games with the chess program Scidlet or any other WinBoard-compatible chess engine, and even use Scid to study endings with endgame tablebases. There are many more features as well; the screenshots show just some of what Scid can do.

Most menus and messages in Scid are available in 13 languages; thank you to all the translators.

News

News - 8 April 2004

I'm just back from an unexpected absense for medical reasons; I will be catching up on email and updating the website over the next few days.

  • Regular issues of Scid Daily will resume just after Easter, on 12 April.
  • Scid 3.7 will be released in late April; a beta release will be available by April 19.
  • The first beta release of Scid 4.0 (with an improved database file format) will be available in the first week of May.
  • I've learned that some CDs I sent were lost; replacements are being sent to all who have not confirmed successful delivery; I will announce here in a day or two when this is completed.
Best wishes for a happy Easter to all Scid users!

The latest full release is 3.6.1; see the What's New and Downloads pages. There is no 3.7 beta test release yet.
