Sai Krishna emerges Champion

The newly formed Dronacharya Chess Academy which has an affiliation of All India Chess Federation had conducted its maiden Jubilee Hills International Centre (JBHC) State Open prize money Chess tournament here at the premises of Jubilee Club from 10th July to 13th July 2004.

The tournament was inaugurated by Super Grand Master P.Harikrishna by making ‘e4’ against Mr. Shyam Gopal, President, of Jubilee Club. Harikrishna was falicitated by A.P.Chess Association and Dronacharya Chess Academy. In his message, hari, said that day by day India is becoming like a bastion of chess. The standard of game has gone to very high. In the coming days Chess players will have bright future. 

The tournament has attracted 190 entries from nook and corner of the State which included 20 International Fide rated players.

S Sai Krishna of Karim Nagar won the championship by securing 10 points out of possible 11 rounds. On his way to clinch the title, He won 9 matches and drew 2 matches, one with G.V.Srinivasa Rao of Guntur who got the second place by a narrow margin (9.5 points ). In the final round he requires a draw to win the trophy but Sai Krishna defeated SVC Chakravarthy in a spectacular end game in 45 moves of Sicilian Defence, Alapin Variation.

This was the best tournament conducted in Hyderabad in recent days. Organizing Secretary, Y.Sameer Kumar, had provided free executive lunch, tea and snacks to all the participants as well as accompanying parents. All the outstation players were accommodated in VIP Suits.

Total Rs. 30000/- was distributed among the prize winners. The winner of the tournament Sai Krishna got a winning purse of Rs. 50000/- plus trophy. Second Prize was awarded to G.V.Srinivasa Rao of Guntur who was richer by Rs. 30000/-. Total 30 prizes were distributed and separate prizes were given to All Age categories. Sponsors were extremely happy by the way the tournament was conducted and enhanced another Rs. 10000/- for top 3 players. Sai Krishna got another Rs. 5000/- , Srinivas Rao Rs. 30000/- and 3rd placed J.Ramakrishna got Rs. 2000/- extra prize money.
