Humpy & Vakhidov emerge on top

Grandmaster Koneru Humpy Grandmaster Koneru Humpy (10.0) got one up on tournament leader Alexander Fominyh (9.5), defeating the experienced veteran in an exciting final round game, here today. It was an anti-climax of sorts for the Russian veteran, who lead the tournament right through and lost out on title in the final game.

The win took her to the top of the table along with Uzbek International Master Tahir Vakhidov, who defeated fellow Uzbek Grandmaster Saidali Iuldachev in the second board.

Having the better of the tie-breaks Vakhidov piped Humpy for the winner's trophy, as Humpy had drawn her first round game and lost her third round game, which pulled down her tie-break score. The prize money for the first two spots, Rs 80000 each was shared among the duo.
