In the first round all three of the favourites were only able to draw, Shredder
against the American freeware program Crafty, Fritz against Deep Sjeng and
Junior against the German program Jonny. In round two Shredder beat the German
ParSOS and Junior the British program Woodpusher, while Fritz, after an enterprising
game, only got a disappointing draw with black against IsiChess. Here are the
