Nguyen, the organiser László Nagy tells us, achieved his GM norm by
scoring 7.5 points in his first ten games. The final game draw against Denes
Boros did not change that. The results have been submitted to FIDE for evaluation
and approval.
Ngoc Truongson Nguyen of Vietnam achieved his third GM-norm
at the First Saturday GM Tournament in Budapest, which was held from December
4 till 15. The lad, who sports a rating of 2527, was born on February 23, 1990,
so that he should get his title when he is still 14. That would make him the
second-youngest Grandmaster in the world. Ngoc is nine months older than Magnus
Carlsen, who was born on November 30, 1990. Magnus got his GM title at
the age of 13 years, 3 months, 27 days, which was later than Sergey Karjakin,
who made it at the frightening age of 12 years, 7 months, 0 days.
David Berczes of Hungary, rated 2321, made his first IM norm
at the same tournament. David was born on January 14, 1990, and is also 14
years old.
Krisztian Szabo of Hungary gained his third IM norm. He was
born on June 21, 1989, making him 15. His current rating is 2394.
Veronika Schneider of Hungary played in the IM section and
achieved her third WIM norm. Veronika was born in 1987 and is 17.
Gyula Pap of Hungary achieved his first IM norm in the IM
section of the tournament. He was born on April 20, 1991, which makes him thirteen
years old. Gyula's rating is 2359.
