| San Luis: the players arrive
24.09.2005 Some came a full week early, by plane from their European or Russian homes; others flew to Buenos Aires and took a bus to their final destination in San Luis. We have sightings of Topalov, Svidler, Adams, Polgar, Leko and Kasimdzhanov. Morozevich is on the way, Anand is due in on Monday. Looks like the games can begin.
Arrival of the players
The first players have arrived in San Luis for the FIDE world chess championship,
which starts next Tuesday (opening ceremony, first round on Wednesday). The
first to arrive was Veselin Topalov, on September 22, emerging cheerfully from
the plane and answering the questions of journalists in fluent Spanish (he
and Anand live or have lived in Spain). "I think this is going to be an
amazing tournament," he said.
The title defender Rustam Kasimdzhanov also arrived on Thursday, accompanied
by his wife. Peter Leko flew from Budapest to Buenos Aires and then took a
bus to San Luis. He was delighted by the beauty of the scenery, the mild, warm
temperature and the excellent food.

Finally Peter Svidler, Judit Polgar and Michael Adams arrived, and like the
other they were given a document that made them "guests of honour".

Alexander Morozevich is on his way to San Luis, by bus from Buenos Aires,
while the tournament favourite Vishy Anand is cutting it fine and arriving
on Monday morning. The World Championship takes place in the Hotel Potrero
de los Funes Complex, in the Province of San Luis, Argentina, from September
27 to October 16, 2005..
