| Olympic dreams of chess fade
31.08.2002 In a big shakeup the International Olympic Committee is eliminating a number
of sports from the summer games. The IOC also rejected applications of 14 sports
seeking a spot in the Olympics, including ballroom dancing, surfing, bowling,
bridge, billiards, squash, water skiing and racquetball. Oh yes, and chess.
This dashes the biggest aspiration of FIDE, which even introduced drug testing
in anticipation of Olympic participation. More...
