Kasparov checkmates Kramnik in Botvinnik Memorial Blitz
08.12.2001 After drawing all four classical games and winning one each in the six rapid chess games Kasparov and Kramnik today faced each other in a ten-game blitz final. And it was the older man who prevailed, winning the first game with a spectacular mate (right). Kasparov Chess, where this exciting final was broadcast live, called it a "rampage" when Kasparov reeled off three wins in a row. Kramnik got one grace point in game nine, with the final score 6.5-3.5 in Kasparov's favour. You can play through the games here...
