  • As always, every team had a wonderful time at the USATE in Parsippany New Jersey. For Knights team member William Bybel came close to a perfect score, only to lose in the last round.

  • Raising Money for the USCF was able to raise over $100 for the USCF. At the close of the tournament, an anonymous donor matched the donation 100%. Read the Newsgroup post from interm CEO Frank Niro...

    Greetings friends,

Most importantly, Glenn Peterson was there. It was nice to see him after such a long an unfortunate hiatus. Also, Steve Doyle was back after missing last year's event for health reasons. GM Lev Alburt played on Team USCF...his first USATE in 18 years. BTW, Team USCF showed that there are folks at the Federation who actually play chess. We went undefeated with four match wins and two 2-2 ties for 5/6. Special thanks to Eric C. Johnson, whose team solicited $101 in donations for the USCF which was matched by an anonymous donor bringing the total to $202. Other team members were Greg Fink, Jim Strobel and Sascha Fink. The team name was "Raising Money for theUSCF". Their goal is $2,002 in 2002! So there's $1,800 to go. Thanks,Eric.

Thanks also to everyone who stopped me to say "hello" and offerencouragement and support.

    Best wishes,
    Frank Niro

  • We also need to congratulate Nunn Shall Pass for having their team name reach the final judging for the Best Team Name Contest. Kudos to Joe Wolensky for his great name!
